THE SOUL AT WORK
The soul is at work in any life situation where there is a search for meaning, creative thought and right action. An artist or architect becomes aware of his soul when he or she feels a positive resonance in action. By integrating this feeling, with reason and careful analysis, works progress with greater clarity and uniqueness.
The awareness of this resonance in the creative process helps an architect to recognize that the soul is at work, guiding him or her to find the “right solution” to meet requirements and conditions so that a design can come into existence. This is the creative process that John Johansen integrates into his most inventive works.
In this process the architect considers the significant relationships that the building will form with people and the environment. The needs of the occupants and the nearby existing buildings, weather conditions, wind patterns and other elements, the trees, plants, streams, and the orientation of the sun, must be considered before the design can begin. An integration of these elements creates the soul of the building.
